ITS ABOUT TIME

Last night was a special night in Yankee universe.
Not only did the offense wake up from its season long slumber ( thanks to the greatest "regular season " player of all time.)
Darell Rasner put together his third consecutive stellar outing.
You got to love this guys attacking the strike zone approach. Ian Kennedy has allot to learn from Rasner. For whatever the reason being, Rasner gets no love whatsoever. I think its safe to say that he earned himself at least a few more starts and the respect from all that are a fan of the Yankees.
The Yankee offense was fueled by A-rod and his HR and two Doubles (should have been two HR'S) . Note that this was the third Blown HR call since Saturday. For all of you who think some sort of instant replay should be installed into base ball I highly recommend you read this -http://samiamsports.blogspot.com/2007/11/instant-replay.html.
I may not like the guy (due to his post season woes) but there is no way around the fact that he definitely helps out this lineup enormously. His presence alone changes the way the opposing pitcher pitches to everybody else.

The main storyline in this 8 - 0 drubbing took place in the 8th and 9th inning.
Joba Chamberlain , took his first steps in being transformed into a starter. Over the past few months , throughout baseball this topic was a wee bit controversial. Whomever thinks that your supposed to keep a dominant pitcher in the bullpen and only let him pitch 80 innings instead of 200 innings , I dont know how to put this but I think your a fool.
You don't see the Red Sox plucking Beckett out of the rotation and making him the eighth inning guy. You dont see the Padres making Peavy the most dominant reliever in the game etc....
It just doesn't make sense. I am really glad the Yankees are sticking to "the plan". I just dont like that he didn't start the season in this role. It risks too many injuries. Just ask the Phillies about Brett Myers.
Anyways, I'm back.... (Its allot easier to write about a Yankee's win than yet another listless performance.) Hopefully This win is a sign of things to come.

Joba was shifted to the bullpen shortly after his July 26th start. When you go through and add up his stats as a starter, you get this pitching line:

84.1 IP, 61 H, 24 ER, 27 BB, 117 K

That works out to a 2.56 ERA, 1.04 WHIP, 12.49 Kper9, and 4.33 K/BB. He had double-digit strikeouts in 4 of the 15 starts, and 9 strikeouts in 5 others. He held the opponent scoreless in 7 of the 15 starts, and only twice did he allow more than 3 runs.

Small sample size yes, but his sample as a reliever is even smaller

YOU COMPARE HIM TO BECKET AND PEAVY WHO CAME IN THE LEAGUE AS STARTERS BUT LOOK AT WHATTHE RED SOX DID WITH PAPELBON HE WAS IN THE FARM SYSTEM AND SUPPOSE TO BE A STARTER BUT THEY BROUGHT HIM UP IN TO THE BULLPEN AND HE THRIVED SO THEY LEFT HIM THERE AND HES A GREAT CLOSER.

I SEE THE SAME THING WITH JOBA HE WAS A STARTER AND COULD BE COULD BE COULD BE A GREAT STARTER IN THE MAJORS BUT ITS DEFINATLY DIFFERENT IN THE BIG LEAGUES THEN THE MINORS 7 TO CHANCE WHAT YOU HAVE WHICH IS A POTENTIAL LIGHTS OUT CLOSER AFTER MO RETIRES IS REALLY CRAZY ESPECIALLY BECASUE TO HAVE THEM THROUGH THE ROUGH SEASON WE HAVE GOING HERE AS AN 8 9 PUNCH TO END A GAME...I DUNNO I HAVE TO DISAGREE

johan came into the league as a releiver....Ya think he turned out ok???

It doesnt make sense to give a guy less innings with such great impact on a game..
Less innings = Less impact

this is from the words of pete abe from news day.

Chamberlain was a starter in college. He was drafted as a starter. He was developed as a starter and pitched in the minors as a starter. He became a reliever last season because he was closing in on his innings limit and the Yankees had a need.

He was really good at it. You know why? He’s a really good pitcher.

You know what you do with the really good pitchers? You start them.

Mariano Rivera is the greatest relief pitcher to ever walk the face the earth. He was 3-3 with a 5.94 ERA as a starter. He put 86 men on base in 50 innings. He is a skinny guy with one pitch who had an elbow problem.

Joba is 6-2, 225 and has four pitches.

The sidebar to this is that people are vastly overrating the importance of the eighth inning. A decent bullpen with versatile pieces can handle the eighth inning.
