YANKEES VS METS: CATCHER

Jorge Posada is the most consistent catcher in baseball. You could take a look at his numbers if you don't believe me. http://www.baseball-reference.com/p/posadjo01.shtml

His career .426 OBP is what really stands out. Although Jorge conveniently had arguably his best season to date on his walk year, I'm glad he did so. He finally got the credit that was long overdue . For so many years Jorge's name gets lost when conversations take place on who are the games elite catchers. Names like Pudge and Varitek absentmindedly take precedence, why?..... I don't have the faintest clue. Their numbers pail in comparison to Jorge's in most of all of the major categories. Be my guest and correct me if I'm wrong.( Believe me I'm not)

These are Pudges #'s http://www.baseball-reference.com/r/rodriiv01.shtml

These are Varitek's #'s http://www.baseball-reference.com/v/varitja01.shtml

Posada isn't only an offensive catcher. He from what I hear calls a great game and works well with just about any pitcher he has encountered in his career that doesn't have the first name Randy.

One of the weapons Posada possesses is his rocket of an arm. The fact that the percent of stolen bases against are so high ,has nothing to do with the lack of Posada's arm. It solely has to do with the poor attempt and approach Yankees pitchers take to keeping runners close(besides Andy of course)

I am aware of the fact that sometimes Jorge has mental lapses on the base paths and the reason this stands out as much as it does is because HE IS ALWAYS ON BASE. I'm also aware of the fact that every now and then the Yankee catcher has a bit of problems with "the past ball" . Trust me, as a person who watches almost every inning of every game that Posada has caught over his entire career it doesn't really affect the Yankee's much if at all. Its like he has a blip on the radar screen for a little stretch then just like that it never happens again. In Posadas game the pros definitely outweigh the cons.

Obviously this isn't even an question of which NY team has the better catcher, the question is , Is Jorge the best catcher in baseball today?
----------------------------------------------------------------
I'm waiting for the Mets response, if he dares...

Abie has officially thrown in the towel on this one. He obviously would rather spare himself the humiliation of trying to fight an uphill battle with both hands tied behind his back.To be honest with you, I dont blame him.

OUTCOME
-------------
First Base -Mets ? (Delgado's injury may tilt the scales in the Yankee favor)
Second Base- Yankees
Short Stop- Reluctantly Yankees but very skeptical ( Jeter will probably have the better year but Reyes has the potential to be GREAT. )
Third Base- Yankees without question
Catcher- Yankees (Yanks win this in a laugher)

YANKEES VS METS: 3RD BASE

At Third Base for the mets is David Wright.
David has proven over his 3 1/2 yr career that he is one of the best hitters in baseball and he is only going to get better.
his hr total keeps rising as last yr he hit 30 and his rbi total is steadily over 100 RBIs...also he has one of the better eyes in baseball as his walk totals have gone up every year...
his OBP is over 400 and his slugging is in the mid .500's
lets not forget that his stolen bases have also risen as last yr he had 34 Sb
his batting avg has gone up every yr from 293(1/2 yr) to 306 to 311 to 325...as well as his hits as last yr he had 196 hits after a terrible April...
his total bases stats are also unbelievable as he has never had less than 300 tb in a full season...and last yr had 330 TB
his run total from last yr was 114 which has also risen from previous seasons
last yr he had a silver slugger award as well as a gold glove and was 4th in MVP voting

some special stats:
with the bases empty his avg is 318
runners on avg is 332
risp .310
and bases loaded .444
man on 3rd less than 2 out he is batting .559 with 34 RBIs in 34 Ab's
and as a pinch hitter last yr he was 1 for 1 with an rbi

one thing common with all of these stats is that they have all been going up...so this year skies the limit for him...

he is the total package...

P.S. he is lot 6

-------------------------------------------------------------

I'm going to say this as clear as possible. I Dislike A-rod.
A guy with that much talent shouldn't be as bad as he is in the post season. If you give any Average to below average player in the league the same amount of at bats that A-rod gets in the post season I guarantee you the production will be a hell of a lot higher. But that's not what we are arguing on are we. There is no way around it . A-rod is the best player in baseball today. Year in year out Alex puts up astronomical Numbers. On a bad year he puts up what David Wright puts up on a good year. Don't get me wrong. In no way am i saying that wright isnt a tremendous ball player, hes actually arguably in the top 20 . Hes the full package any team could dream of. But nobody is even on the same planet as Alex. I would like to stress to all of you. As you all may know (those who do not than refer to my old posts) I really have animosity toward Alex. Year in and year out he never fails to disappoint in the playoffs. But bottom line , love him or hate him , If A-rod is on your team hes going to take you to the playoffs. That plus the numbers he compiles its a no brainer . His career average numbers are
AB 625 R 128 H191 2B34 3B2 HR44 RBI128 SB23 CS5 BB78 SO130 BA.306 OBP.389 SLG.578 *OPS+147 TB 362 SH1 SF6 IBB 6 HBP 11 GDP 15
These numbers make me drool whenever I see them. Arod isnt slowing down any time soon either.

Arod shouldn't even be compared to Wright. Its just unfair to David .
