YANKEES VS METS: CATCHER

Jorge Posada is the most consistent catcher in baseball. You could take a look at his numbers if you don't believe me. http://www.baseball-reference.com/p/posadjo01.shtml

His career .426 OBP is what really stands out. Although Jorge conveniently had arguably his best season to date on his walk year, I'm glad he did so. He finally got the credit that was long overdue . For so many years Jorge's name gets lost when conversations take place on who are the games elite catchers. Names like Pudge and Varitek absentmindedly take precedence, why?..... I don't have the faintest clue. Their numbers pail in comparison to Jorge's in most of all of the major categories. Be my guest and correct me if I'm wrong.( Believe me I'm not)

These are Pudges #'s http://www.baseball-reference.com/r/rodriiv01.shtml

These are Varitek's #'s http://www.baseball-reference.com/v/varitja01.shtml

Posada isn't only an offensive catcher. He from what I hear calls a great game and works well with just about any pitcher he has encountered in his career that doesn't have the first name Randy.

One of the weapons Posada possesses is his rocket of an arm. The fact that the percent of stolen bases against are so high ,has nothing to do with the lack of Posada's arm. It solely has to do with the poor attempt and approach Yankees pitchers take to keeping runners close(besides Andy of course)

I am aware of the fact that sometimes Jorge has mental lapses on the base paths and the reason this stands out as much as it does is because HE IS ALWAYS ON BASE. I'm also aware of the fact that every now and then the Yankee catcher has a bit of problems with "the past ball" . Trust me, as a person who watches almost every inning of every game that Posada has caught over his entire career it doesn't really affect the Yankee's much if at all. Its like he has a blip on the radar screen for a little stretch then just like that it never happens again. In Posadas game the pros definitely outweigh the cons.

Obviously this isn't even an question of which NY team has the better catcher, the question is , Is Jorge the best catcher in baseball today?
----------------------------------------------------------------
I'm waiting for the Mets response, if he dares...

Abie has officially thrown in the towel on this one. He obviously would rather spare himself the humiliation of trying to fight an uphill battle with both hands tied behind his back.To be honest with you, I dont blame him.

OUTCOME
-------------
First Base -Mets ? (Delgado's injury may tilt the scales in the Yankee favor)
Second Base- Yankees
Short Stop- Reluctantly Yankees but very skeptical ( Jeter will probably have the better year but Reyes has the potential to be GREAT. )
Third Base- Yankees without question
Catcher- Yankees (Yanks win this in a laugher)

Sam i dont know who you are but i have been reading your blog for some time now. Usually i agree with most of the stuff you write but this past blog was just Way OFF.
I would take Shneider over posada any day of the week for this upcoming year and here is the reason why.
POSADSA was on his walk year last year. I think he wont bat better than a 275 ave this year with if he is lucky 18 Home runs. He will lead the AL with past balls again. He will have atleast 90 strike outs and not many walks.
SINEP LLAMS A SAH adosop
On the other side of town Brian Shneider will lite up New york and will end up in the 5 hole in the mets lineup. Will probably win the gold glove Bat with a 307 ave 29 HR
95 RBIS AND WHAT EVER CALLING A GOOD GAME MEANS that to.

I am not crazy and remember i said this. Before you Know it Brian Shneider will be doing Vitamen water ads instead of right. And Jorge Posoda at wendys flipping burgers with Kevin Federlyne
All you Blogers will think i am a Psycic when you see this actually happen. But i am telling you i am not anything but a really logical keen baseball fan.

Morris the only thing Posada urinates on is his hands. If you will say alou does the same all i have to say is he doesnt qualify as a met reason being he doesnt get enough at bats. and anyway he washes his hands afterwards. I hear Jorge lets the piss dry on his hands.
With all the piss in the world on his hands this year he wont end up better than Brian Shneider.

srry fot the long wait...but any sane person can see that posada is one of the best catchers in baseball and even thoughhe is getting to his mid 30's you cant compare him to schneider...who will only be known in 10 yrs from now as one of the guys thta was traded for milledge

end of story...

I guess only hazzeet yankee fans believe that posada can come closed to last years stats when he was on roids and hgh. Probably the same fans that believe JOBA & HuGHES AND Kennedy will be any good.

i think everyone here will agree that he wont put up numbers like he had last yr...but he still will be better then schneider...

if the mets had gone with castro as the full time starter..it would make this a little interesting...castro has come along..and avg. a homer every 11 AB last yr.. i am interested to see what he can do with more playing time...
