YANKEES VS METS: 3RD BASE

At Third Base for the mets is David Wright.
David has proven over his 3 1/2 yr career that he is one of the best hitters in baseball and he is only going to get better.
his hr total keeps rising as last yr he hit 30 and his rbi total is steadily over 100 RBIs...also he has one of the better eyes in baseball as his walk totals have gone up every year...
his OBP is over 400 and his slugging is in the mid .500's
lets not forget that his stolen bases have also risen as last yr he had 34 Sb
his batting avg has gone up every yr from 293(1/2 yr) to 306 to 311 to 325...as well as his hits as last yr he had 196 hits after a terrible April...
his total bases stats are also unbelievable as he has never had less than 300 tb in a full season...and last yr had 330 TB
his run total from last yr was 114 which has also risen from previous seasons
last yr he had a silver slugger award as well as a gold glove and was 4th in MVP voting

some special stats:
with the bases empty his avg is 318
runners on avg is 332
risp .310
and bases loaded .444
man on 3rd less than 2 out he is batting .559 with 34 RBIs in 34 Ab's
and as a pinch hitter last yr he was 1 for 1 with an rbi

one thing common with all of these stats is that they have all been going up...so this year skies the limit for him...

he is the total package...

P.S. he is lot 6

-------------------------------------------------------------

I'm going to say this as clear as possible. I Dislike A-rod.
A guy with that much talent shouldn't be as bad as he is in the post season. If you give any Average to below average player in the league the same amount of at bats that A-rod gets in the post season I guarantee you the production will be a hell of a lot higher. But that's not what we are arguing on are we. There is no way around it . A-rod is the best player in baseball today. Year in year out Alex puts up astronomical Numbers. On a bad year he puts up what David Wright puts up on a good year. Don't get me wrong. In no way am i saying that wright isnt a tremendous ball player, hes actually arguably in the top 20 . Hes the full package any team could dream of. But nobody is even on the same planet as Alex. I would like to stress to all of you. As you all may know (those who do not than refer to my old posts) I really have animosity toward Alex. Year in and year out he never fails to disappoint in the playoffs. But bottom line , love him or hate him , If A-rod is on your team hes going to take you to the playoffs. That plus the numbers he compiles its a no brainer . His career average numbers are
AB 625 R 128 H191 2B34 3B2 HR44 RBI128 SB23 CS5 BB78 SO130 BA.306 OBP.389 SLG.578 *OPS+147 TB 362 SH1 SF6 IBB 6 HBP 11 GDP 15
These numbers make me drool whenever I see them. Arod isnt slowing down any time soon either.

Arod shouldn't even be compared to Wright. Its just unfair to David .

OUTCOME
-------------
First Base -Mets ? (Delgado's injury may tilt the scales in the Yankee favor)
Second Base- Yankees
Short Stop- Reluctantly Yankees but very skeptical ( Jeter will probably have the better year but reyes has the potential to be GREAT. )
Third Base- Yankees without question

Great post on 3b sam...and 1B certainly must be re-addressed, in part due to the emergence of shelly in ST and Giambino's new look and adjusted swing! the guy hit an opposite field double the other way...wooohooo

sam my only thing is that..his teams dont always make the playoffs as was seen in texas..but other then that...no problem here...

when hes playing for a team that has solid chips around him than he definatley tilts the scale for the team he plays for,

congrats on ur spring training opposite field hits giambi..but delgado has hit opposite field hr with one arm reaching out over the plate...

i said it in november that i thought giambi would be improved.. but lets not crown him just yet...

as of now even with delgados 4 day injury he still takes first base for the mets...

Ok i will welcome my self back to the blog by first saying pecker we are not asking for your approval, That is the SECOND time you said that Jeter wins. But now thats over with let me just say 3rd base.

SamiAM, i loved the post and i couldnt agree with you more. At any other position except SS (Wright will be Jeter in a few years with more power and less championships) But i love this guy. The thing is that Arod will go down as one of the top 3 players of all time along with ruth and mays. But let this not take awa from how good wright already is. I mean watching this guy play i know i just said it but wow the guy just reminds me of the captain. And for some reason i wish he could win a vote (even if hes on the mets) but due to the circumstances, he cant.

Now Pecker about first base if your talking about what Delgado USED to do and what Giambi USED to do then no question, Giambi would put him on his rear end even w/o the roids. But being that Delgado looks like hes 45 ( he realy does look a lil like Julio) i think this vote should stay for now but a second argument should take place right before the season.

i will agree with you max that lets see the full extent of this injury before we make any predictions...good point there...if it serious then we should reopen the 1b argument...

im srry sam, i told u i would make this one a long one.. but i think its time to complete the diamond and go to catcher...and we will redo 1st base at the end of the month...

ok, let’s try and go over all the mets injuries...

Duaner Sanchez is temporarily sidelined due to soreness in his surgically-repaired right shoulder.

Ryan Church had tried to work out today, but felt dizzy and so he will remain sidelined until he is back on his feet after having suffered a concussion in a collision with Marlon Anderson, who bruised his chest.

Moises Alou will likely miss 4-6 weeks due to hernia surgery.

Carlos Delgado took ground balls and hit off a tee on Wednesday, and did not feel pain in his hip. He will try to take batting practice tomorrow.

Carlos Beltran has yet to play in a spring training game, as he continues to recover from off-season surgery. He says he will be ready for opening day.

Orlando Hernandez threw his first complete bullpen session and did not complain of any pain after it was done.

Endy Chavez and Jose Valentin took batting practice and ran the bases on Tuesday and Wednesday. Both expect to play in a game this weekend.

Ruben Gotay has a sprained ankle.

Michel Abreu has been sidelined with a strained right hip flexor.

Brian Schneider has missed the last few games with a strained hamstring. However, he has been taking batting practice and catching back at camp.

Also, my shoulder hurts and I may be getting a cold...
