WHO EVER SAID IT AINT EASY BEING GREEN?

As the Yankee season is all but done in a what turned out to be a very embarrassing farewell tour of the house that Ruth built and now the Steinbrenners are tearing down. I cant help myself but turning my attention solely to the only sports franchise right now that is giving me something to be positive about. For all of you who don't know who I'm talking about , I'll be more than happy to tell you. J-E-T-S JETS JETS JETS !!!!!!!.

The new look NY Jets have suddenly catapulted their way as Superbowl contenders and NO I'm not getting ahead of myself here. Being a Jets fan my entire life, I have been used to failure, have been used to bad signings bad draft picks and have always been frustrated at the "Non Moves" that should be made.

But for whatever reason being. All that has changed this past off season and I couldn't have been more thrilled. But being the Passionate fan that I am, I was skeptical and I seriously, can you blame me?!?!?! Ive never seen this team win in my entire life time.

Even going into week one going up against the lowly 1-15 Dolphins. I was expecting the worst (praying for the best). As the game started and we lost the coin toss I said to a friend of mine "seasons over" but to my dismay the defense looked solid. granted we were facing Miami , but I liked what I saw.
Brett Favres 56 yard TD throw to Cotch was simply a thing of beauty. That's when suddenly it all hit me, Holy crap we got Brett Effen Favre on our team we really have a chance to be a contender.
The most important acquisitions of the off season The newly revamped O-line was better than advertised. Not only did Faneca look every penny worth his contract, He transformed The "Brick" physically and mentally into a legitimate looking 4th overall pick instead of the bust in which i thought he was.

As we all know, a good O-line = a good running game which in effect makes Thomas Jones into an elite back.

So lets simplify things, we have a great QB a solid running game, suddenly the Jets have a Damn good offense.

This leaves us to the million dollar question, Is the Jets Defense good enough to make them a factor in the AFC this year? well, aside for those 2 minutes of Chad looking like Montana, I would say yes. When was the last time you could remember a Jets defense holding the opposition to less than 60 yards rushing? In my recent memory, NEVER.
The corners were solid all game , highlighted by Revis's game saving INT and the D-line was applying heavy pressure which was sparked by the performances Bryan Thomas Calvin Pace and Shaun Ellis.

If this is all that happened in week one , I truly would have been satisfied.

But the Highlight of my weekend (call me sick) was the game break that CBS showed when Brady went down.
I
don't want to hear all you politically correct people yelling at me that I'm a monster for being happy somebody got hurt. To all those people I say " Screw You ". If your a true fan of sports and a certain somebody especially the face of the enemy themselves go's down, your thrilled .

When I heard Beckett or Schilling got hurt, I had the same feeling.
Why? Well because when people that make you upset can no longer do that , there is nothing else but jubilant feelings to be felt. Its only natural, If you don't, your lying to yourself.

Its nothing personal, For all I know Brady is a great guy. He's probably a sweet heart. But on the field, I hate the man with a passion.

For the past 7 years all I see is this guy beating us and making me frustrated. Its time for My team to shine.
I agree that its nicer to beat the Pats with the Reigning MVP, but when your a Jets fan, you simply take whats given to you and be happy. Even if its not the same, I'm at he point where I say to myself "who gives a damn".

For all I know Cassel is a pretty good QB, Even though he hasn't started a game since High school. But I know one thing, Cassel is no Tom Brady.
With the Pats losing Brady and every big AFC threat losing, This division is wide open and the possibilities are endless.

i would like to welcome myself back to sammy's blog after a 5 month break its time to put my feelings aside and dive into one of the best teams in the AFC!!

Sam, dead on with Brady..I don't know if i smiled more when brett threw his first td or seeing brady going down.

Second, Calvin Pace is an animal!! this guy has a motor that does not turn off and we are now seeing why the Jets payed him all that money.

Contrary to what you said I disagree with the offensive line. This O-line (after one game) does not come close to the line we had in the Curtis Martin days. Favre had to scramble to often and in my eyes they need some work before they can get my blessing (for whatever its worth).

Another concern for me is Lavernius Coles. Where is this guy? If the Jets are going to succeed this yr they need him to be a part of it!

I love the jets Defense, looked good, but this was Chad, and they must have had every scouting report known to man kind on this guy.

I have a ton more to say on the Mets but i'll try and hold off til the end of the regular season.

Until then B-R-E-T BRET! BRET! BRET!

BTW The yankees last yr under Torre through the same amount of games were 82-62 and now under Girardi they are 76-68..and they were 4 games up in the wild card..

first of all its good to see some comments on the blog again. welcome back abe and msr i love the giants too but giant fans dont hate the jets so you can be happy for gang green.

i dont know if its coincidence or luck or what ever but you know deep down Joe Torre is loving what is happening. His Dodgers are in first and for the first time in more then 10 years the yanks are out of the play off race and it happens to be on the year he isnt there any more. i know that the yankees have had a bunch of injuries this year but even with the injuries the amount of money the every day lineup was receiving they still should have hit much more. Maybe with out the stars like posada and Matsui in the every day line up showed that Derrik Jetter can not anchor a line up. but then again they had Arod, Giambi, damon, and abrau all put up pretty good numbers. And the pitching with all the injuries still hasnt been that bad.
There isnt a team in the majors that feels good about therre bull pen except for maybe the angels and cubs. so that cant be the only reason they are basically out of it.

for the mets. Having Johan pitch the way he did on the sunday night game against the phillies was a pretty good thing to see expetially bec it was in september. they are only 1 game and a half up and i will not forget about last year so anything can happen. but If delgado continues and wright picks up a little they should be fine.

If and only if the Mets get to the post season this year Pedro definitly should go to the pen. Simply bec he is right now their worst starter. i would rather have Johan,Perez, and pelfry pitch instead of him. i dont know the story with Maine is. if and when he is coming back. But they should have him available when he can in the bullpen. Again IF they make it to October baseball.

Regarding New York Football things look pretty good for both of the New York teams. they both can make the post season. i would not like a giant vs jets super bowl i really would not know who to root for. i really love them both.
The giants showed us last year with some talent and luck once you make the play offs really anything can happen.( And thats when brady wasnt hurt) now that he is out you really never know) Call me sick but if Peyton goes down the jets chances get better

JOE TORRE on the FAN at 5:15 today!
and is it just me or is the way the dodgers have played this yr is similar to the way the yankees have played over the past few years..they struggled a bit in the beginning of the season and then they made a few acquisitions, manny, casey blake, greg maddux (derek lowe w/ maddux on team in his career has like a 85% winning percentage!) and the team has been hot down the stretch!

METSBLOG.COM put up a survey asking fans when should they put up a magic number countdown? 20 to 15, 15 to 10 10 to 0 or never? the answer was split between never and 10 to 0....

anyways as of now the magic number for the mets is 16!!

LETS GO METS!

If you're a Jets fan and you're surprised they lost, then you're not a Jets fan!

ok the jets will have a record of 8 and 8 this year. i dont know if it will be enough to get in to the play offs but that will be there record at the season end. unless they can somehow beat either seatle buffallo on of two, san diego, tennesse or the next face off in foxboro. i dont see any of hose happening which is why i hink the will be 8 and 8. if they can pull off one of those games they will be 9 and 7. ( they wont)

ps the mets are a totall disgrace.

oh abie last year at this time the mets had a 5 game lead and you said you werent jumping off the bridge. even when they were down 7 to 0 in the last game you for some reason felt confident in the team.
how do you feel today with the situation they are in right now. i am a big met fan and i told myself i will not be watching the rest of the season bec it will age me about 10 years in 14 days.

i came to a realization. what i am about to say doesnt mean they cant win the whole thing IF they get to the post season. ( if the 06 cardinals can do it so can the 08 mets)
but the truth is with all that being said they just arent that good.

the way baseball used to be set up a team like the mets that has the holes they do wouldnt even be close in the pennent race.

i will start listening again when its play off time. if the mets are in i will be very excited if not i will still watch bec i am a huge baseball fan.

max sutton you have turned into what mets fans have been making fun of yankees fans for doing for years...you are turning into a phony fan..even green day woke up when september came (corny!).ur waiting until october!! Max "phony fan" Sutton!!

As for the Mets, i thought 2 weeks ago that the bullpen would be great since they get all this experience and when wagner came back they would all step down one and they would have a good bullpen. Now i am not so sure of that for obvious reasons.. i was at the game on sunday & i left after the 7th inning with a 4-2 lead hoping to get home for the Jets game... Well the mets lost and i heard the 1st quarter on the radio..

Overall, i still believe that this team can make it to the playoffs and call me crazy but i think id rather play the cubs in a short series over a 7 game series..just for the fact that i rather face them with johan and pelfrey picthing twice each and oliver the other..for the reason that i dont want to have to expose a weak starter in any of these games...so the wildcard is fine to me..

as for the Jets..there is no doubt the team is better..but the coaches are the same! wheres the aggressive play-calling with the best improvisor at qb...1st and goal at the 3 and u run it 3 times at the best inside defensive linemen in the league.. the next time at the goal line they passed and scored on a td pass to stuckey...

Anyways i still see this team as a playoff contender and unless they choke the last 2 games away @SEA AND vs MIA they could get up to 11 wins but the minimum is 9 with this team..we play a week AFC west and NFC west...

Don't underestimate this team this early..its only 2 games...as a jets fan you had to see this loss coming it happens every year! You don't have to look far back to see that anything can happen...

P.S. Calvin Pace is an animal!!

usually i would totally agree with you about the phony fan but you just finished telling me that you left in the seventh of a 4 to 2 game. i love the jets to but you dont leave a game like that early especially if its the mets in september.

after what they did last year and are starting to do this year i get a totall pass on not having to go through this again. AS much as i say i wasnt going to watch i heard the score in the car on the way home and they were down 2 to 1. then the next i checked dwaner gives up a three run homer after he comes in the game with 2 out no one on.

the last thing i saw was david wright up with the bases loaded down 7 to 2 and the tying run on deck with a 2 and 0 count ground into a tailor made double play. this is what i call signs of a melt down. they better win the next 3 in row or they will be behind before you know it.
