PINCH HITTING AT LoHuD

SAM I AM SPORTS BLOG UPDATE

Hi Everybody,

As I was skimming through the blogs i read every morning and I came across one of my favorites.
The LoHuD Yankees blog which is updated multiple times a day. The Author of this blog isn't your average Tom , Dick, or Harry that has a Sports blog (Such as myself).

The Author of this blog is an established New York Yankee Beat reporter (My dream Job) for the Journal News .

This Blog gets thousands upon thousands site hits a day. to say the least , it is extremely popular.
Pete , posted today that he will need a few pinch hitters in his absence. Naturally , I shoot him an email asking if I could get a shot.
To my disbelief , He told me "your in".
Now, i must think of a topic to write to my national audience.
This is where you guys (and gals)come in .

What should my topic be about?

I would have let Burnett go to the Braves. I love his stuff and I would sign him in a world where pitchers still got 3 year contracts. Burnett's career speaks for itself.
He made 4 starts 2003.
He made only 19 starts in 2004.
Finally, he made 32 starts in 2005 which was a contract year for him.
He got his 5 year $55 mill. contract by the Jays and went back to his usual ways.
Made only 21 starts in 2006. Better than in Florida.
Made only 25 starts in 2007. Better than in Florida.
He knew he wanted to Opt out of his contract after the 2008 season cuz he likey the more money.
He had a very good AL East year in 2008 making 34 starts, a career high to ensure him this crazy contract.
Instead of giving him $17.6 mill for 5 years, I would have liked to see a different scenario play out.
I would rather give Ben Sheets 2 years at whatever money he wanted ($15-18 mill.) From 2002-2004 he made 34 starts every year. He also made 31 starts last year. Even though he's also injury prone, he would have come at a better deal than Burnett and I think he's a better pitcher than Burnett too!! Even if he hasn't pitched in the AL East. His contract would be insured and executives could sleep better. They could then also sign the formidable Pettitte for one year at $14-16 mill.
Sabathia, Sheets, Wang, Joba, Pettitte. I will gladly have Phil Hughes and Ian Kennedy be the Spot starters.
Also, by not locking in Burnetts money, they could sign TEXIERA. He's the kind of player you sign for 8 years to be a fixture at first base and your cleanup hitter. He's great on offense and defense. Having Arod and Texiera for the next 8 years would be awesome, like Manny and Ortiz.
If they let Boston sign Texiera because we all of a sudden ran out of money and/or are hesitant of giving any more long term contracts this year, they will be regretting it for the long haul.

I think they are in middle of trading either ecobar or kelly johnson to another team for pitching maybe even peavy..also they probably got a huge hometown discount...

reports are that kelly johnson will move to back to left field and furcal will play 2nd base

AND teixeira is a mistake for anyone to sign for that much...HE IS NOT WORTH IT!! and i'm telling you after his first week in NY he will be BOOed out of the stadium!

At this point with all the big money guys on the team, he basically fits right in. There's no way the sox can get him. let baltimore, washington or LA have him.

but do you want to have so many long term contracts on a team..it affects you in the future..the yankees were fortunate to have 90 mil off the books this yr..it wont be so much in the future if you sign everybody long term!
