WE NEED GIRARDI

Ive been reading in blogs that the new Steinbrener duo has been impressed with Mattinglys interview all I have to say NOOOOOOOOOOOOO. Mattingly is a great guy but Hes just not a winner. Girardi works for me hes got the spunk that Mattingly lacks plus hes a former manager of the year. try and match that Donny baseball. If for some reason Pena gets the job the jury is still out on him even though he had success with the royals one year and won the award. He still was under 500 as a manager. granted they sucked but still.

I agree- mattingly was a great player- I just don't see leadership in him. It's similiar to when the tigers hired alan trammel as manager:total disaster.
I have nothing against Tony Pena. He's a great baseball mind and it's nice to have former managers as coaches( see Larry bowa). But I equate managing the yankees to being president of the country. The yankees are a legendary team, high class and an american icon. You gotta speak a decent english.
Again, I have nothing against Pena or Latins at all. My favorite players are latin. But I can't picture a Yankkee Press conference where the manager can't articulate.

I agree... i dont think that mattingly deserves to be the next manager but really who does...joe torre has put the pedestal so high that noone short of pinella or bobby cox deserves to be the next manager.

the bottom line is the yankees are in a tough spot and i have one question for you samiam... if willie randolph was still a yankee bench coach would he be the front runner and would he get the job over the other 3? i believe he would but as for right now i say give it to girardi or try and get bobby V away from japan (after all he was part of the most over-achieved team in mlb history that being the 2000 mets)

one more thing if ur the mets willie or torre (meaning torre would take the job if u fire willie) personally i like willie only becuz i believe that torre needs a veteran team even though he brought up the 96 yankee team i dont believe NOW he can live with reyes not running out a bunt or milledge's attitude or even wright acting like a captain (jeter)...so i think willie is better suited for the mets even with the collapse...

what do u think samiam?

max hates latin people. Dont fall for his innocent kind words he says. He hates the mets bec they are all latin. Shame on you max

I agree with all of you Girardi is the right guy for the job. Donnie never won anything in his mlb carrer. Even if its not his fault its not the point girardi has been in the situations you want your manager to have experianced and he won. Mattingly didnt do anything wrong but didnt do anything right either. Girardi already did good things as a manager. Now with the new youth on the yankees girardis extra spark is perfect for them.

i voted for you sam. and last point now i know why max doesnt want JOHANN bec he is latin you are really a sicko max

according to reports the yankee hierarchy (levine and steinbrenners) want mattingly becuz they think hey joe showed him how so lets give it to him and cashman and his people want girardi becuz they have the baseball knowledge and think that girardi is better

so they say that the longer they wait the longer cashman can influence the owners to take girardi and according to "sweeney" at wfan they will announce it on tuesday (at earliest)

Mattingly was a fiery captain in his playing days. He is not as calm and laid back like joe torre as everyone says.
I don't know how he will fare as a manager, but willie and girardi did ok as rookie managers.
I keep going back and forth in my mind as to whom I'd rather be as my Manager. I can't see Pena being the manager for the new york yankees. I would love for him to keep his role as the first base coach and mentor for posada. If Mattingly doesn't get the job, I still want him to be part of the coaching staff. I wonder what the relationship is between him and girardi.
One question to ask, is can either of these guys earn and retain the respect of the players. They are young, not much experience...Torre got Matsui and Damon to play as a revolving door in left field without any complaining. Can a new fresh young face (the same age as some of the players) be able to keep the peace?
