Hey Steinbrenners, JUST GET JOHAN ALREADY

This post is directly from http://www.riveraveblues.com/

After reading it I was drooling at the idea of Johan a Yankee all over again.

If IPK isn't needed in the package Just pull the trigger and get the deal done already..

In the words of the great AVI DWEK " I'll drive them to Minnesota myself. Where can I pick them up?"

Johan Santana’s great 2007Posted by: Ben K. in Pitching
Over at the Lo HUD Yankees Blog, Peter Abraham this evening penned a piece with which we here at RAB clearly agree. Abraham wrote that the Yankees should just say no to Johan Santana.
Of course, we believe that. Hell, we’re even selling t-shirts for just that purpose.
But in the course of his argument, Abraham strays a bit from his analysis. He writes: “Santana could be great again. But he was 15-13, 3.33 last season and will be 29 in March.”
Now, as far as my reading of this statement goes, Abraham’s use of the “but” indicates that Johan Santana was not great in 2007 because he won only two more games than he lost. It’s a classic sportswriters mistake. Johan Santana didn’t win more games because the Twins’ offense was terrible. They were 25Th in runs scored and 27Th in team OPS.
Despite this poor offensive production, Johan Santana still managed to win 15 games. But that’s neither here nor there. Let’s look at some of the other stats the once-great Johan Santana put up. His 3.33 ERA was 7Th overall in the American League, trailing John Lackey by 0.31 runs. His 1.07 WHIP was tops in the AL, and his 235 strike outs trailed Scott Kazmir by just four. His strike out-to-walk ratio was 4.52, good for fourth in the American League.
In a word, Johan Santana in 2007 was great.
Now, there are plenty of reasons — starting with Phil Hughes and ending with the luxury tax issues — for the Yankees to avoid a trade of Johan Santana right now. And if his agent were smart, he’d tell Santana to stay healthy for another year and cash in during a full-fledged bidding war in 2008. But we shouldn't start pretending that Johan Santana wasn’t great in 2007 because of a poor won-loss record. Make no mistake about it: Johan Santana is one of the top pitchers in the American League. Stick him on the Yankees or the Red Sox, and his 2007 line would probably feature 20+ wins and another Cy Young Award. Greatness, indeed.

in Johan’s losses, here are the number of runs the Twins scored:

2
3
3
0
2
1
2
4
2
3
0
3
4

the guy would have won 22-26 games if he was on the yanx...

Game A) 1-1 game through 7 innings...Every pitch is crucial because it could make the difference in the game. The pitcher is super focused.

Game B) Yanks winning 7-1 in the 3rd inning. The pitcher is more likely to feel more comfortable throwing different pitches, not feeling the pressure as if in a 1-1 game. More of a chance to throw fastballs down the middle and challenge hitters because he doesn't have as much to lose if he gives up a solo home run, etc.

If Johan has a 2.5 era with minnesota and wins 16.
If Johan has a 3.5 era with new york he will still win 18 games b/c he knows he can give up an extra run and still win.

i know there really hasnt been a whole lot of action on the baseball front since the mitchel report. but did anybody see max n. I heard he flew to the dominican to watch winter ball. Is this true? If you are out there max n let us know.
What would be great to stir things up is if johan got traded.
I remember in the yeaR 2000 A day after XMAS the mets got MIKE HAMPTON and although he wasnt lights out that year he was a big reason thay made it to the world series. It made the rotation that much deeper( everyone went down a slot)
So for all those STUPID reporters that think JOHAN wasnt that good even if you are right which your not. you make the trade. The yanx even after the trade will have enough youth for the long hall and dont forget JOHAN is only 29.

and btw that trade was the best trade in mets history becuz the mets didn't resign hampton and he went to the rockies and the mets got their draft pick and they selected David Wright....

i think that the fact that this subject only got 11 comments and 6 of them were on johan ...this shows that we all just want this to end already somebody get him ir have the twins say they will see us all in july by the trading deadline...

btw looking at santana's contract he only recieved a no trade clause for 07 for being in the top 3 in cy young voting in 06...but that expires once the 08 season begins...so if they trade him in 08 they can trade him anywhere...

this is straight from his contract via mlb4u.com

"with Cy Young win in 2006, he receives a complete NO-TRADE clause for the 2007 season- + he did not finish in top 3 of 2007 Cy Young voting and loses complete no-trade protection at the start of the 2008 season-"

this may not matter becuz only a few teams have the prospects and the money to trade for him...however the dodgers may be inclined to join....

here is arods new contract:

+ he receives a $10M signing bonus: $2M payable upon approval of the contract by the commissioner's office; then $1M each Jan. 15 in 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012 and 2013; finally $3M on Jan. 15, 2014-

+ he receives salaries of $27M in 2008, $32M in 2009, $32M in 2010, $31M in 2011, $29M in 2012, $28M in 2013, $25M in 2014, $21M in 2015, $20M in 2016 and $20M in 2017-

+ he can earn $30M in milestone bonuses: $6M each for tying the home-run levels of Willie Mays (660), Babe Ruth (714), Hank Aaron (755) and Barry Bonds (762), and an additional $6M for passing Bonds-

nice to see that when he 41 and 42 he only gets 20 mill each year what a bargain

abie that point you made that the draft pick was david right was a great one I did not know that. And max n its good to know you are alive. How was the dominican republic. I know you dont like the latin people so how was it in their home place. And any updates on players we should know about.
Someone told me you placed $50 dollars on the mets to win the east next year. is this true?

abie said...

i think he lost all his money to that belly dancer...hes all out of singles now...

abie said...

a winterball update...the other guy in that kazmir trade brtolome fortunado has pitched 15 scoreless innings...

willie collaza the lefty that came up at the end of last year as a relief pitcher..is now starting and has a 3.12 era through 8 starts

abie said...

a look to the future...what will happen this year with the mets

ramon castro will win the starting job at catcher a month into the season...church will not impress and will be booed everytime he's up..and omar wont replace him becuz he doesnt want to show he was wrong..and endy chavez will see more playing time...at the all star break he will give heilman a shot at the rotation since el duque is on the 15 day dl and pedro is 9-5 with a 4 era...and pelfrey is 7-6 with a 4.5 era and is showing both signs of improvement and failure... the mets bullpen is 3rd best in the nl but still the fans get nervous everytime u see the door to the pen open...

very fair. soon i will give you my yankee stat predictions.

first of all abie- reyes only 10 homers!!!! whatever happened to the 35 homer guy, world class, best freakin' player in the universe?!!

it's nice to see a met fan finally realizes how much better hanley ramirez is than this guy.

I gotta add that i think you underrate david lot six wright- i see him hitting 40 homers easily this year. The pitching staff is dead on except for pedro- 15 wins!!?? hes lucky if he starts 15 games!!!!!!

abie said...

if randy get 17 wins for 2 years with back problems then y not pedro for one year 15

maxsutton said...

if all your predictions are right abie i think they win the division you gave the starters a totall of 81 wins. That means not including some spot wins by guys like humber or the aron sealies of the world. the bullpen needs to ge about 10 wins which i dont think is to much to ask for.
I think you were very fair with your numbers over all. I hope beltrans power numbers are better than that. and i hope Reyes ave is better than that other wise i am fine if that is what they do.
Last thing i dont think perez and maine are both going to be that good maybe one of them but not both.
Max n good to see you are back
