THE 6 MAN ROTATION

All I'm hearing these days is that the Yankees are worried about keeping all of there young arms around the 180 inning mark, and they are worried about burning their arms because they are just still a bunch of kids. You know what? I agree with this mindset. They should keep them fresh and let them develop properly. As a matter a fact Buster Olnley just reported that The Yanx are prepared to start Joba out of the pen this year. With the "JOBA RULES " still in effect. Just for the sole reason of keeping his innings down.
I was thinking about it yesterday, If the Yankees want to keep there young arms fresh and still have them be effective and at the same time keep the bullpen fresh and effective there is a logical answer which would be a controversial one at best. Why don't they try a 6 man rotation?

Which would look something like this.

Wang:

Pettite:

Joba:

Hughes:

Kennedy:

Mussina:

Before you guys jump down my throat think about it. All the youngsters would get around 30 starts instead of 35 which would limit there innings at least 25 to 30 innings less.

If the starters are more fresh they go deeper into games then the bullpen stays fresh and more effective and we don't have to worry about a very tired bullpen by the all star break.
All I'm saying is I think it should be in the thought process and shouldn't be disregarded just because its an unpopular thing to do.
Although I know its never going to happen . Its worth discussing.

tony la russa started the 5 man rotation and it has crippled pitchers everywhere... becuz now they are being brought up with the idea that 100 pitches is enough and now the yankees are grooming their pitchers not to pitch more then 85...whats next a 10 man rotation...and a 30 man roster...i know the players union would like it but enough is enough...5 man is fine...leave it!

abie abie abie. your missing the point. In a usual situation your correct but this is far from usua. The yankees are in a situation where the future rotation is our present rotation as well and in order to make sure this plan works they must keep there arms fresh. so this season the 6 man rotation makes sense, just until they are comfortable enough for the youngsters to be at the 200 inning mark.

ESPN's Buster Olney said he heard Joba Chamberlain could open next season in the bullpen in an effort to limit his innings total for the season.
If the Yankees don't think Chamberlain is ready to throw 200 innings, then two months in the pen, followed by a move to the rotation, might be just the thing to see that he's strong in September and October. Still, it'd also be a good way to get him hurt if they don't handle the move back to the rotation correctly. For what little it's worth, the Yankees have said all winter that they're planning on starting Chamberlain off in the rotation next year. If that doesn't happen, Ian Kennedy would likely be the fifth starter.

YANKEES

Wang - 9,
when hes ON hes just plain dominant And hes on more often than not.(lets just hope hes on in the playoffs for a change)

Pettite- 8,
Theres no other guy I'd rather have on the mound in a big game than andy.

Hughes- 7.5
From what ive seen.when hes healthy his stuff is filthy. And dont forget what he did in the playoffs out of the pen.

Kennedy- 6
I know when he pitched he was down right dominant but im not sold on him yet.(trade him NOW)

Moose- 5.9
He is very shaky at times but he still shows some flashes of brilliance every so often. But hes way to inconsistant at his old age.

Joba(the starter- 9
LIGHTS OUT (need I say more?)
-----------------------------------
METS

Perez- 8
When on hes unhittable.but his control is way to eratic at times which results in way to many walks.

Maine- 8.3
This guys fastball moves. I like him allot

Pedro- 7
WHEN healthy hes masterfull but he only gives you 5 to 6 innings at best. way to fragile.

Pelfrey- 5
This guy SUCKS

Hernandez- 6.5
When hes on the mound hes the most competitive guys around but like pedro hes way too fragile and hes probably 45 years old.Much better suited out of the pen. And give his slot to heilman.

max s ...ur the mets gm and there is no way you can trade your prospects for johan, bedard or ace...you can trade gomez heilman and mulvey for blanton....whats ur next move..free agency included...

abie said...

next years salary cap for mlb is 155 million...and u pay 40% for every dollar ur over...the mets had the highest salary for a team under the cap this year...it sounds like thats the plan that the wilpons have given minaya.. he can spend all the money he wants as long as its under the cap...

maxsutton said...

just get Johan and if they have any bad contracts kill them. thats right kill them.

abie said...

if there is no way u can get johan or bedard etc...then what do you do...thats my question..

the mets are in big big trouble for this season

maxsutton said...

Msr i would usually agree with you. But in this case i disagree. i am not saying i like their team the way its set up right now but look at the whole nl east. its not that good. The mets have a good offensive team. if i had to bet on a team to win that division i still go with the mets.
I agree if they start slow they are in trouble but if they come out fast or even average then i think they will be in good shape. ( and reyes has to have a fast start before the fans really turn on him)
And Abie i didnt ignore your question i am still thinking. (i still think omar is sleeping you dont think they could have gotten haren)
Enough of saving these prospects. You are right if you going to trade them for lets say a ryan church than you dontdo it. I still dont beleive that happened.
But if you can get a good name in return do it. bec it turns out the mets always overate their prospects.

I think we can pretty much say that Jacoby Elsbury on the Sox is a hot prospect and is gonna be a pretty good player for the next few years at the Big League level.
How are we comparing that little Gomez outfielder on the Mets?? Do we think he's really good??

The Mets don't have the starting pitching to match up with the braves and phillies in my mind. There will be some injuries and some disappointments during the first 2-3 months and as it is the Mets' first 5 starters are not impressive in my eyes. When someone does go down, I don't even see anyone waiting in the wings. Any veteran long-men or hiding in AAA or even some young prospects to bring in for a spot start here or there waiting in AAA????

The offense is going to have to score alot of runs this year just for them to compete.
Yes, the NL East got weaker with the Marlins getting worse and the Nationals not getting any better. I still think the braves and Phillies will be a handful again for the Mets.
The NL West is awesome and the NL Central is signing free agents left and right.

What do you think???

abie said...

wow!

the mets definately have the best lineup in the nl now that the phillies dont have rowand...and dont underrate him becuz last year he had a great year so he contributed alot to that team...(put aside how u feel about rownad last year he was great)...

so i know that they have utley howard and rollins but other than that they have noone...cmon werth/coste/jenkins/taguchi/burrel and who's their third baseman

and stop with the braves they are in rebuilding and now they have no CF..they have the best 1,2 in the nl east...but thats it...

the mets have a great offense veteran players and young talent...and they have a 1,2 that could spark at any moment with oliver and maine...last year they fell apart at they end if not for that they would have won the division by 6 r 7 games like in 06..and everyone here would be saying world series in 08'

dont compare the met sor any nl team to the al...it sux for yankee fans that the al got so much better but the mets dont have to worry about that...so yankee fans keep ur anguish to urselves and on ur team...we're fine...

the only team that worries me is the dbacks..becuz i can see their young lineup maturing and becoming something great..and they got haren..and have an ok bullpen (y trade valverde...makes no sense)

oh and out of the 2 most recent expansion teams which league got the better team the nl and the nl took on a growing young team the brewers...and the al got the "rays"...and the al is still miles better so go figure....

RANGERS IN 7!
