I would like to thank Abie for inspiring me to write up this post.
I will be giving you My predictions on what the Current starting 9 of Yankee's will be doing as well as the 6 starters the yanx have slotted for the 5 rotation spots . I know the roster is subject to change ( JOHAN.... I wish) but here goes. I'm not going to include relief pitchers unless the last name is Rivera cause lets face it even a profit cant predict what a reliever will be giving you on a year to year basis. I'm not going to include guys that may or may not make the team either. I'm just going with the basics.
First I will list you the 6 possible starters. The stat predictions are based on what numbers they would put up if they get an entire season of work.

first problem: with 6 starters they all cant have double digit wins and losses...not enough starts to go around...acc to you the yankee pitchers would have 128 decisions and their leaving only 34 to the bullpen and spot starters...
im not sold on jeter 100+rbi..he only had one 100 rbi season and that was in 99 with 102..and his homers have been on the decline every year for the past 4 years and last year he had 12hr and 73 rbi in 156 games...
matsui is just overrated and i love the fact that giambi has 21 homers and just 61 rbis ...great stat there!!
it actually totals 138 decisions leaving only 24 for bullpen and spot starters
abie... did you read what i wrote??? maybe i was unclear. I wasnt basing my stat predictions based on my 6 man rotation theory. i was basing them on a 5 man rotation. ( if each guy was in a 5 man rotation thats what i think he will do)
First of all abie thank you very much for documentry you put in the mail box by my house. i didnt hear it yet but i am excited to listen to it very soon.
Sam overall i think you were pretty conservative with your predictions and were i think accurate. Abie did bring out some solid points.

This was Bobby Abreu, last season, in terms of PA/BA/OBA/SLG:
Home: 348/.326/.408/.497
Road: 351/.241/.330/.394
Those road numbers are ugly - and strange, as Abreu has usually been a good hitter on the road.
I decided to see if this was something that was an issue for Abreu all season last year. This is what I found, again, in terms of road BA/OBA/SLG:
Until June 30th: .217/.314/.335
From July 1st on: .267/.349/.459
Clearly, last season's road woes for Abreu were an early season thing and not something that went on for the entire year. Bascially, it was the month of May that killed Abreu on the road last year (where he went .179/.233/.250). And, in fact, the month of May, in general, was terrible for Abreu in 2007.
I'm not sure if the Yankees can afford to have Abreu have a month this bad in 2008. It certainly had a factor in them not finishing in first this season. It was not the only reason - but, it was one of the bigger reasons.

Gio Gonzalez led all of minor league baseball with 185 strikeouts while pitching for Double-A Birmingham last year. He was 9-7 with a 3.18 ERA in 27 games, all starts, for the Barons and was named to the Southern League midseason and postseason All-Star teams. Gonzalez was originally drafted by the White Sox as a compensation pick (38th selection overall) between the first and second rounds of the 2004 First-Year Player Draft.
Fautino De Los Santos was named the South Atlantic League’s Most Outstanding Major League Prospect and was also named to the SAL midseason and postseason All-Star teams in 2007 after going 9-4 with a 2.40 ERA and .148 opponents batting average in 21 games, 15 starts at Single-A Kannapolis. He also made five starts for Single-A Winston-Salem and combined at both stops for a 10-5 record and a 2.65 ERA in 26 games, 20 starts.
Ryan Sweeney was named the White Sox number one prospect by Baseball America entering the 2007 season and hit .270 with 10 home runs and 47 RBI in 105 games at Triple-A Charlotte.
Wow I am hurt that you did not take my advice for a article on Stienbrener anniversary. You could have done the predictions anytime between now and next season start.
Law is very high on Fernando Martinez, so much so that he considers him a bigger prospect then Hughes or Ellsbury and wouldn't trade him for a rental player, even if his name was Santana.
If the Twins need a lead-off hitting center fielder I think Gomez and Martinez are both comparable to Ellsbury and while Hughes is one of the best young pitchers around, the Mets are willing to give up quantity, and the quality isn't that far from Hughes. Three prospects and Heilman or four prospects is alot to lose but Santana is well worth it.
