The Hawk has landed in the Bronx

Reports are stating that the Yankees and Latroy HAWKins have agreed on a 1 year deal said to be worth $3.75 mill.

This was posted by my good friend Dan over at PINSTRIPES PA ( I couldn't have said it any better myself)

Hawkins spent his 2006 season with the Baltimore Orioles....in the American League East. While pitching at Camden Yards Hawkins posted a 2.81 ERA in 32 innings with a 2.62 K/BB ratio. Not bad for pitching in a hitters park. Against the Red Sox that year, Hawkins threw 8.2 innings with a 2.08 ERA and a 1.25 K/BB ratio. The Yankees destroyed him, but he managed to post a 1.08 ERA against the Devil Rays in 8.1 innings. During the first half of the 2007 season, Vizcaino posted a 5.02 ERA in 43 IPDuring the first half of the 2007 season, Hawkins posted a 4.07 ERA in 24 IPDuring the first half of the 2007 season, Vizcaino posted a 3.32 ERA in 32 IPDuring the second half of the 2007 season, Hawkins posted a 2.90 ERA in 31 IPHawkins had one particularly bad April last season, but if you remove that month from his 2007 season, he would have gone 2-2 and posted a 2.70 ERA in 41.1 IP with a 2.2 K/BB ratio. The point is-Hawkins is a decent replacement for Vizcaino; especially considering that the Yankees will get a draft pick for loosing the Viz and will not be hindered by signing a 34-year-old reliever to a 3-year contract. Also, if Hawkins does bad, the Yankees can just eat his contract. If he does good, they have another bullpen option on their hands, or they can trade him for a prospect come July. Fans, understand this deal is nowhere near as bad as people are making it out to be. Hawk is a great clubhouse guy, and if Girardi uses him correctly, he'll be a solid reliever for the Yanks in 2008.

Note: Max n is totally against this signing, He is saying that farnsworthless will be having a better year. (hes nuts) Max your wrong on this one(if hes used correctly(i hope girardi is a better bullpen manager than torre)than he will be solid.)

If he ends up sucking it wouldn't be the end of the world cause we have other pretty good options to work with. Bruney, Edwar,Britton, All im saying is that its worth rolling the dice on the Hawk for a couple of reasons. #1 if hes good we got ourself a new 8th inning guy for a bargain but if hes no good hes expendable #2 hes got a cool nickname "THE HAWK"

P.S. Pavano was signed to a 1 year minor league deal by the yanx after cutting him so they can collect insurance. Pavano logged back to back years of plus 200 innings pitched and the red sox and tigers were among several other teams in the running for him. so you cant really get that mad that they signed him at the time but After all said and done it probably was the worst signing in professional sports history. I challenge all of you to find a worse one.Pavanos numbers as a Yankee was a utter joke. I can remember maybe one or two really good games that he pitched but definateley not worth 40 million. Here are his numbers.http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/players/stats?playerId=3784

This pic is from the funniest baseball site i know http://www.nommas.org/

if vizcaino is totally gone. Omar should jump on him like Max N jumps on belly dancers. seriously he would be perfect for the mets.
What a good nick name wasted on a so so releiver. ( the Hawk)
On the hawkens deal bullpen guys are so up and down you cant tell how good the move is till later on.
Sam im not saying numbers are nothing but when it comes to releivers the only way to know if they were really good is if watching them day in and day out.
look at heilman from the mets if you look at his numbers as a releiver he looked great but if you watched him closely he was awful. anytime it was really needed he didnt come through.
So you really never know.

And on Pavano you have to sign him for the minor league contract just so he doesnt come back and shut the yanx down in a big spot for another team. This way he only screwed them with money.

SAM I AM said...

I would bet my nuts that pavano wouldent hurt them for another team

maxsutton said...

i wouldnt bet my nuts for anything, thats number 1. but you really never know. you are right it probably wont happen but hey hey you never know.

I personally challenge Sam and any yankke fan , even Avi Dwek ( with Vicky's permission, of course) that The FArns, as bad as he is, will have a lower Whip and better strikeout rste than Hawkins.

Hawkins is an utter disaster!!! he throws in the upper 90's but his strike out rate for his career is almost half his innings pitched!

And he gives up a ton of hits.Britton, bruney, aladajanajaladaaza, Desalvo, ohlendorf, kearstens, rasner, and edwar are all more worthy of the roster spot, and much cheaper.

Bad Move!!!

max n what about vizcaino am i missing something. i thought all the fans liked him and from what i remember he was pretty good. Ofcourse he had his walk issues but all realivers aside for mo and a select few others have their issues.
On the Hawk another thing that would scare me is that in new york we all know the pressure is big.
vizcaino doesnt have a clue so i dont think it bothered him. (if i was max n i would say he doesnt have a clue bec he is latin, you sick racist)
And out of all those young names max n mentioned i like Bruney the best.

i dont like hawkins bad move there....i dont like vizcaino either but he is better than hawkins....

i like the mets team now... i am glad that omar didnt sell the farm for haren or bedard...the mets team is the mose underrated in baseball right now...everyone seems to think that they arent good and the only thing i can see omar doing now is adding a starter like livan or colon and trading for fuentes or dotal or another middle reliever...let the kids mature they are only 20 and some only 18 relax with them lets see what we have...

i think if the mets give pelfrey a full season that he can get 13 wins easily this year...

abie said...

as for the belly dancer....just wanted to let everyone know that max backed out of bowling today...he said he was "sick"...

maxsutton said...

abie you make a good point. the mets are better then everyone thinks they are. For some reason the wilponds love to be looked at as the underdog. He never likes to be the team to beat before the year starts. they have been that team for the last 2 years but now they are back to what they usually are. not to say they cant win just they arent the top on the list anymore.

Plus if keeping all the young talent is what they want to do they should have kept milledge instead of getting a 3rd string catcher and a average 4rth outfielder.
I dont know if you watched pelfrey this year but nothing he has ever done indicates him getting 13 wins maybe heilman. but i agree with what they have now you still have to give him a chance.
Max Nesser wouldnt go bowling because he was BALLING LAST NIGHT. You sick man Max

abie said...

heres the deal max n we keep the bashing goin until you go out with ralph's cousin...

abie said...

81 days and 3 min til spring training begins

abie said...

if signing vizcaino means heilman is a starter then do it now!!!!

maxsutton said...

i thought abie was writing 81 days since ralph wanted max to go out with his cousin.
Bottom line Max n you got to go out sooner or later so stop thinking so much and just go out.

maxsutton said...

max n its like being at the plate against a realy good fastball pitcher. if you think you swing and miss you just have to react, see it and hit it.

What i am trying to say is JUST GO OUT.

Unknown said...

holy cow

SAM I AM said...

Max n, Your more scared to go out than arod is scared to get a big at bat in the playoffs.
JUST GO OUT ALREADY

SAM I AM said...

is jasmine THAT good??

maxsutton said...

ATLEAST AROD steps up to the plate.
i know he makes out, but he gives himself a chance to get a hit.
Max n you are like pujols in last years allstar game you dont even get to the plate.
From what i hear this girl ralph has for you can party to. i dont know if she has all the moves Jasmine has but you have to settle down sooner or later.

maxsutton said...

Sam i heard there is some good news about your new brotherinlaw. Does this mean Marc Cohen has to pitch on our tournament team next year. Maybe its worth it if we get 20% off in kosher corner.

Unknown said...

what does marc cohen have to do with sam? and no, he can't pitch, even if we get paid to eat there

maxsutton said...

you will find out soon max n. dont worry i was kidding not that he is a bad pitcher just azier is the best. but you should be busy getting that number of the girl from ralph.

Age limit I believe is 24.
Trips are usually during winter and summer break.
My trip was full of hot israeli g's.
We had 3 manish soldiers who showed us how they polish their rifles.
Up and down. Up and down. Up and down. Lots of polishing....it was tantalizing stuff.

abie said...

this blog is rated xxx

maxsutton said...

MSR when you said the age limit is 24 i thought you were talking about this blog. What can you do when you have guys like max n on the blog with us you just cant help it. And i am sure you know that the nick name for woman israelie soldiers is MATRESSES.

abie said...

ok... back to reality... max sutton would you want the mets to give up f mart, gomez, pelfrey and mulvey for santana? basically our farm team for johan...

maxsutton said...

i would do it and if they realy call hin F Mart trade him with a name like that he will never be good. and gomez might be good but i dont go crazy for him. They should just do it. If you sign johan for long term even if he pitches a bit worse remember its the national league. plus he would anchor the rotation for at least 3 to 4 years. SO YOU JUST DO IT.

maxsutton said...

i know i am getting way ahead of myself as a met fan but for for all contending teams. In a short playoff series Johan can be a huge difference maker. so for a national league team to get him if that team makes the world series he can pitch 3 of the games and can help any team win.

maxsutton said...

what i am trying to say is that pitching wins and great pitching realy wins. with the way the mets offense is constructed, reyes wright, beltran their offense looks fine so they need pitching. Johan is not just a win now pitcher he will be good for at least 3 to 4 years
SO THEY SHOULD DO IT ofcourse this is if they would do it.
