What are the Yanks gonna do with Nick Swisher?
He's got 3 years albeit with average money left on his contract.
I can't see him taking away at bats from either Damon, Matsui or Nady. All 3 of those guys are better during their slump years than Swisher is during his best year.
He's average at best in the outfield, playing most of his career in RF and CF. He's not better defensively than Damon or Nady in the corners. He must have a better arm than Damon though. Maybe he's as good as Melky and Gardner in CF but less arm than Melky and less speed than Gardner.
With the great pitching lined up, we need as much fundamentally sound defense as we can get right now.
Honestly, I'd rather have Melky starting in CF and Gardner backing him up and coming in to pinch run in the late innings. He'll also rotate with Matsui in backing up Damon in LF.
I've said it before and I'll say it again. The Swisher trade was a waste from the beginning. I don't care how much Bill James "Moneyball" people liked him a couple of years ago. He's another Scott Hatteberg in the making.
Maybe I'm just being picky cuz everyone else is just trying to put together a general major league roster.
P.S. I'm also fine with Cody Ransom backing up the infield positions. Any thoughts on that as well??
Mike,
I would be more then happy if they they didnt make any moves. I think its been too long since the yanx had an above avg bench. i think swish and ransom is a great duo off the bench
If you're going to copy and paste from another blog, at least have the decency to credit the blog.
Although we have differences in culture, but do not want is that this view is the same and I like that!
