A-mess

Alex Rodriguez and the New York Yankees have agreed to the outline of a $275 million, 10-year contract, a deal that potentially would allow him to earn millions more if he sets the career home run record. The amount of the guaranteed money was revealed by a person familiar with the negotiations who spoke Thursday on condition of anonymity because the deal hasn't been finalized. A-Rod met Wednesday in Tampa, Fla., with the Steinbrenner brothers but the parameters of the deal were set in place last weekend.
"Yeah, I could say that," Yankees senior vice president Hank Steinbrenner said. "The meeting was a final get-together. He wanted to make sure myself and my brother knew that he was sincere and serious."
The Yankees still must draft the agreement with Rodriguez's agent, Scott Boras.

I cant believe this.

The steinbrenner brothers within the first 2 months of running the organization not only did they make fools out of themselves their making the Yankees look like a classless team.

Once you say something you have to stick with it.If you say your don't want

A-Hole back if he opts out.then mean what you say.

we cant have this team be run by a bunch of monkeys spending daddy's money.

I know that in the regular season I'm going to be tempted to route for Alex cause hes probably going to win us some games. But we all know whats going to happen once October hits...lets see if we could win without this bum because we all know that we can rely on his sub .100 BA in the playoffs.

It doesn't make sense to route against somebody on your team cause your not actually routing for an individual your routing for your TEAM and by routing against your routing against your team and that doesn't make much sense. so i guess what i will do is route for the Yankees and not for Alex. if he ends up helping the Yankees that's great if not then i will boo the hell out of him.

the yankees have to sign rivera and pettite at any cost because if they dont sign mo then they will be forced to either give cordero a similar contract to what rivera wants or move jaba to the closer role and then if pettite doesnt come back then ur rotation lokks like this...wang,kennedy,hughes,igawa,mussina

so it is a must to resign these guys and money should be no object just get it done...and even if they get it done they still might be the 3rd or 4th best team in the AL...

and the yankees should look to sign octavio dotel becuz their bullpen w/o jaba needs help...and i dont think cordero wants to be a setup man now...

oh and the yankees had to sign arod they had no choice..they had no #4 hitter...and i still think that they should sign a center fielder...if that means andruw jones then do it and try and trade melky and damon for something maybe include a young stud(kennedy, hughes, jaba) in there and go after CC,Peavy or Johan..they are all free agents after 08 and their teams dont spend big bux on their players..

first of all abie, Igawa wouldn't start unless he has a lights out spring- ohlendorf clippard kearstens and desalvo are all ahead of him now.
Speaking about igawa, as crazy as it sounds- the guy has trade value. He is under thirty, lefty, fastball 93, sometimes he even reached 94 (sawe it with my own eyes in person and on t.v.) good chandgeup, decent curve- but he needs tons of coaching cause he has little control. The posting fee the yanks paid is not part of his salary- he gets only $16 million over the next four years! in this market that's very cheap! I really think a team like Oakland would take a shot at him. Before you argue abie- think about all the lefy pitchers out there and what they make.
Pure stuff-wise igawa is very good.

Will you spoiled yankee fans ( Avi, Sammy, Ralph) PLEASE cut out the arod bashing! especially you sam- when I'm standing next to you in Lodge section 15 after arod hits a walk off homer next year I wanna see you boo him then. STOP!!!!!

Oh, and Max S- I'm sorry but I'm booked throughout 2007

First of all. Max Nesser once you see a picture of this girl and way she moves her belly i am sure you will find time.
Avi and Sam are not allowed to stop their Arod bashing. That would make them pure hipacrits( i know i spelled that wrong)Go back and read sams posts He straight out said he will never forgive him he has no class and was very very happy to see him go. uNTILL HE DOES ANYTHING IN THE POST SEASON he really is a dog.
Max Nesser even if you are right about Igawa he got such a bad rep last year they wont be able to get much for him. and by the way He SUCKS. Victor Zambrano had stuff to look were that got the mets. All the analysts say that MOTA has stuff and i think he should have his right arm removed for the benefit of baseball.
Any way SAM my belly dancer friend tells me your first dance with your new wife is going to be to the song NEW YORK NEW YORK. GREAT IDEA.

why is everyone so down on Arod. It is clear that he wanted to play for the yanks the whole time, he just wanted to get the most money, raise the bidding, just like any other businessman would. Why do we expect these guys to take a pay cut when the yanks could afford it anyway. I understand that the yanks have all the leverage now and they should have never included the incentive clauses. I don't understand the concept of incentives at this point, for a player such as Arod who's making 27 mill a year and I would assume that's motivation enough. giving him all those bonuses to reach the home run milestones is begging for him to be homer happy and as a result his batting average may suffer and he may get into one of those week long slumps every time another milestone approaches.
Why do we boo? why all the hatred and resentment fellas. Screw all of the off field crap.
Arod is not only a member of this team but he is a very very very important part. When one of our guys is in a slump, you don't boo him. You cheer him and boost his confidence, tell him that he can and will come through when it counts. Negative reinforcement only complicates issues and makes matters worse on the field of play. You have the right to Boo because you are a paying customer, but don't you really want to see greatness and be cheering through October??

What is Mariano doing??? Does he have a personal vendetta against someone in the organization (maybe cashman) for not offering an extension earlier? Does this only perpetuate itself because Cashman said it was team policy but then offers an extension to Arod midseason of the one of the greatest statistical season ever???
With all due respect, I can't see Mo closing, or even pitching for that matter, 4 years from now. He is 38!! I know that prior to this past season, he had 4 straight seasons of an ERA under 2.00 and had 4 or fewer blown saves and just the most ridiculous stats any closer has ever put up. he not only closed out games but he didn't even make it interesting (unlike the other poser sandman). The 2007 campaign left him with a 3.15 era and more hits than usual but he still improved his dominating stats of BB's and K's.
He is at the point in his career when he hits that El Duque wall sometime during late August, early September if I remember correctly.
He is 38!!!!
He is being offered 3 years when he originally only wanted a 2 year extension I believe in Spring Training. He is also getting $4 million more per season than the next highest paid closer (the poser sandman).
I acknowledge that Mo is the greatest closer of all time. It's not like they weren't paying him well before this contract and are making up for previous years. I think he made $11.5 mill per year in his last contract. He is totally being unreasonable now and I really want him to come flat out and tell everyone what he really wants, and what he really thinks of the whole Joe/Joe situation, contract situation, etc.

rivera got paid 10.5 a year for the past 3 years

GETTING SOME MO: Despite not getting the fourth year he desired, closer Mariano Rivera (left), with former catcher and new Yankees manager Joe Girardi in 1997, is expected to accept the Yankees' three-year, $45 million offer early this week.

The future Hall of Fame closer isn't happy about Hank Steinbrenner talking as much as he has about the contract offer that will make Rivera the highest paid closer by $4 million, but that doesn't appear to be a deal killer.

Though Rivera wanting a fourth year added to the deal has become an issue, it's not clear if the 38-year-old asked the Yankees for the extra year or had a four-year deal from another team. If that was the case, then Rivera is turning down additional dollars to remain with the only team he has worked for since 1990, where he's posted 443 saves (third on the all-time list).

THIS IS GREAT NEWS AND ONTO THE NEXT PROJECT...JOHAN!

abie said...

i dont see a team like the yankees getting johan..unless they include some of their top prospects...the dodgers and angels have similar prospects and they are willing to trade them for him and they have the money to sign him longterm as well...it will be interseting to see the other 3 pitchers on the trade block peavy c.c. and bedard all free agents in 09 and their teams dont have the money to sign them..so lets see where those guys will end up as well...
