Usually the backup catcher is an afterthought. Whoever the Yankees pick up everybody just seems to swallow the pill. Whether its will Nieves or Sal Fasano or John flarity, Tod Greene . The list goes on and on. Theres no reason for this. If your payroll year in and year out is going to be at the 200 million dollar mark Then every spot on your roster better be the best money can buy. In this case the Yankees should be targeting guys like Greg zaun or Jason Laure Or even Mike piazza (let him play a little first a little DH and catch once a week.)There are guys out there that would do SO much better than what they have been getting out of that position.Which is close to nothing.No offense to Jose Molina but in my books that's not good enough. Maybe for any other team but the yanx especially for the amount of money they spend.

the yankee issues run deeper then that NOW
u need a few starters so slow down on the backups
first get a first baseman and a tird baseman and then worry about ur backups
the funny thing is the only thing yankee fans agree on is that they should sign either andruw jones or torii hunter a position that u already have 4 "quality" player sat (damon,matsui,melky,abreu)

sam I can't agree with you more. We should try to get a quality righty hitter to backup posada and to help Giambi at first. Piazza and Ramon Hernandez come to mind. By the way, How many homers do you think posada would hit as the 1B or Dh? Not that it's actually going to happen, But it's an interesting thought if we can somehow get a young catcher like a John Buck or Yadier Molina for Melky Cabrera.

Suzyn you dont seem to understand what a yankee blog is in the offseason. Its all speculation and fans mulling over there team and every roster spot.As for Andy declining his option im in middle of posting it now.

my point was to fill the holes u have now and backup catcher isnt one of them...start worrying about ur starting catcher...becuz posada wants a 4th year and just like pedro the mets will give it to posada...

if we lose posada that will be catastrophic. it can't happen no matter what.
Jose Molina will be the best backup catcher next season and we are fortunate enough to have him on our team.
Mike Piazza is washed up, no offense. Give Posada the 4th year even if he ends up being the backup in that 4th year. we will sign a top catcher for that 4th season as soon as one becomes available. If Posada doesn't come back, all is lost.
We don't need any more DH's or 1B. with Duncan, Giambi, Menkeivitz (free agent), and maybe wilson betemit, we are packed at that position.
Plus, Giambi and the 4th outfielder will share DHing duties at least for now.

jon heyman is reporting that since the yankees held onto hughes jaba and kennedy all this time that they will probably not trade them at all..
which means that a trade for a major player...johan,willis,cabrera,,, probably wont happen
